Issue 15 of ELECTRON reported on measures being taken in relation to the managing of the South Island power supply.
In late September the Upper South Island Winter Security Response Group meet for the final time and acknowledged that supply to consumers in the region had not been affected during winter 2004.
The Group also noted that the measures being put in place by Transpower over the coming summer would enhance power system capacity and increase security of supply ahead of next winter.
With the upgrades in place, the upper South Island will have a voltage stability limit of approximately 1120 MW for winter 2005. This is 12% above the peak demand of 995 MW experienced in August this year.
