Electronic Security Installer, Provisional License/Registration

Appropriate electrical registration is required for a person to carry out
prescribed electrical work in their own right.
This Electronic Security Installer registration falls within the class of electricians registration, however will be limited to carry out the following only:
(a) Undertake the prescribed electrical work associated with the installation of 230-volt ac security alarm systems and subcircuits in domestic installations; and
(b) Disconnect and isolate existing sub circuits from switchboards for the purposes of ensuring the safe connection of cabling and security control panels to existing 230-volt
sub circuits; and
(c) Re-connect the existing sub circuits in (b) above; and
(d) Replace fuse links on the switchboard.
Please note the above mentioned does not cover work at switchboards other than circuit isolation/reconnection or fuse link replacement.
Requirements for Provisional Licence
Application can be made by completing the relevant application form and attaching the following:
- Details of two years work experience on the installation of conductors within buildings or structures as an electronic security alarm installer, confirmed in writing by relevant employer(s)
- Confirmation of completion, of courses in safe working practices, testing, basic first aid and CPR.
Requirements for Registration
- A National Certificate in electronics security (level 3).
- Confirmation of completion, of course in safe working practices, testing, basic first aid and CPR.
Please note Electronic security Installars must issue Certificates of Compliance for any 230-volt ac cabling they install. Workmanship is subject to EWRB audit.
Applying for Registration
Please send:
- A completed application form
- A National Certificate in electronics security (level 3)
- An application/registration fee, plus practising licence fee if appropriate.
Notes:
- The application/registration fee is $103.00 (GST incl). The practising licence fee is on a “pro rata” basis (see fee schedule on the application form). Make cheques payable to the Electrical Workers Registration Board.
- An annual practising licence is required where prescribed electrical work is to be undertaken for payment or reward to you or any other person.
