Electrical Service Technician - Registration Upgrade

Contents

Electrical Service Technician registration is normally issued with one of the following limitations:

  1. The maintenance of electrical appliances rated up to 230 volts, single phase supplied via plug and flexible cord.
  2. The maintenance and replacement of electrical appliances and fittings rated up to 460 volts including their disconnection from and reconnection to permanent wiring.

Upgrading from i to ii Above

The requirements are:

Experience - Completion of a minimum of 1000 hours (approx. 6 months) servicing/replacing electrical appliances over 230 volts (up to 460 volts rating) and fittings of an electrical installation. See Note 1.

Tuition and Examinations - Completion of the course and a pass of the EST B practical assessment and written examination.

Applying for Registration

Please send:

  • A completed application form;
  • A work-history statement from the employer confirming completion of the electrical work experience mentioned above;
  • A registration application fee, plus a practising licence fee if appropriate (see note 2); and
  • The original of the EST registration certificate and practising licence presently held.

Notes

  1. Experience, where obtained within New Zealand, is required to be obtained under a supervisor of electrical work.
  2. The registration application fee is $103.00 (GST incl.). For practising licence fee see the schedule on the application form. A practising licence fee is not required to be sent if a valid EST practising licence is held. Make cheques payable to the "Electrical Workers Registration Board".
  3. Send applications to the Electrical Workers Registration Board, PO Box 10156, Wellington. Please allow 10 working days for processing.
