1. Training providers and examination supervisors:

The Training Provider must:

  • ensure that there is sufficient space between desks.
  • ensure the supervisor sight and check each candidate's admission slip against the examination candidate list.
  • have a contingency plan for when there is insufficient space to house the candidates programmed to undertake the examination.
  • ensure the supervisor is not distracted by other work, also they must ensure the room is quiet.
  • prior to the examination paper being issued, be explicit as to what material is permitted and what material is not permitted in the examination room.
  • advise candidates on the time allowed to complete the specific type of examination being conducted. i.e. EST A = 2 hours, EST B = 2 hours, Electricians' Theory and Regulations = 3 hours, Inspectors' = 3 hours, Tradespersons' - plumber or gasfitter only = 2.5 hours, plumber/gasfitter combined 2.5 hours.
  • require candidates to place anything other than authorised material in the front of the room.
  • inform candidates that any person using unauthorised material will have the material removed and be reported to the Board. The Board, in turn, could invalidate that candidate's examination.

In addition:

  • where a candidate is not known to the examination supervisor, the supervisor will require the candidate to provide proof of their identity. A passport or photo-driving licence would be a suitable document for this purpose.
  • supervisors must provide the 10 minute reading time before allowing a candidate to commence the examination, then strictly adhere to the time allocated to that examination - specified and printed on the examination cover sheet.
  • the examination supervisor must collect the papers and ensure that any extra pages used are labelled with the candidate's number and securely attached to the examination paper.
  • supervisors must ensure that all examination papers are to be held secure at all times and on completion of the examination that they are dispatched promptly back to the Board in the courier bag provided.
