Applications and practising licence ID cards

There are currently delays processing Registrations, Class applications, Trainee Limited Certificates and Limited Certificates. We are working on processing these as quickly as possible.

We apologise for the delays and we are working on processing these as quickly as possible, however your licence application will take longer than usual to process. There are also delays with dispatching of licence packs and ID cards, and it may take up to 8 weeks before you receive your licence packs.

If you have received notice that you application is approved, you may carry out prescribed electrical work only in accordance with the registration details recorded on the public register. You do not need to wait for your ID card to carry out prescribed electrical work. The public register contains details about an Electrical Workers registration and practising licence.

Practising Licence Renewals

All registered electrical workers must hold a practising licence to carry out prescribed electrical work. You are required to renew your licence every 2 years.

If you wish to renew your licence, the Board must receive your application before your current licence expires. You can submit your re-licensing application any time between receiving your re- licensing letter and the date your current licence expires.

Provided your re-licensing application is received before your current licence expires you can continue to carry out prescribed electrical work in accordance with your current registration, until your re-licensing application is finalised.

Portal log-in issues

Electrical Workers have been contacting the Call Centre recently for assistance with access to the new EW Portal. The main issue that electrical workers are currently experiencing is that they don’t receive the invitation link to their email address when completing the online ‘Request access to the portal’ registration form.

When completing the Request an Electrical Worker account form, please ensure:

  • Your Practitioner ID should be the same as your EW number. You must include the “EW” prefix in front of the numbers when entering your practitioner ID.
  • When entering your email address in the Primary Email Address field, you will need to enter the exact same details we currently have on record for you.
  • If you need to change the email address we hold on record for you,you may update your email address details once you have logged into your EW portal.

Redeeming portal invitations

  • If you have not yet requested access to your account, and your email address is not a personal one e.g. it is an info@ or shared company email address, please contact us to update your email address to a personal one prior to requesting access to your account.
  • When we send your invitation email, this must go to a personal email address so that only the practitioner the invitation is intended for redeems the correct invitation email.
  • If you have already redeemed your invitation code and your email address on file is not a personal one, please login to your EW portal to ensure your details are correct and update your email address to a personal email address.

Requesting an electrical worker account for new users

  • When entering your details into the online form, please ensure you use a personal email address that is only accessible to you and is not shared with your company or any other practitioners.
  • When we send your invitation email, this must go to a personal email address so that only the practitioner the invitation is intended for redeems the correct invitation email.

If you have already redeemed your invitation code and your email address on file is not a personal one, please login to your EW portal to ensure your details are correct and update your email address to a personal email address.
