Changes to Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010
The Government has recently made amendments to the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010. The Electricity (Safety) Amendment Regulations 2025 were issued on 13 October 2025, amending the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010, and comes into force on 13 November 2025.
The Electricity (Safety) Amendment Regulations 2025 include a 1-year transitional period during which people may choose to continue to use the old standards or switch to the new standards. If the amendments apply standards to new items not previously covered, a person has until 13 November 2026 to comply with these standards.
The Electrical Workers Registration Board is in the early stages of reviewing guidance documentation and content that references the standards cited in the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 and will provide updates as soon as possible to ensure that electrical workers are not impacted throughout this transitional period.
