Prescribed Electrical Work (PEW) limits

Prescribed Electrical Work (PEW) refers to specific types of electrical work that are regulated under the Electricity Act 1992 and the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010.

The purpose of regulating PEW is to ensure electrical work is performed safely, competently, and in accordance with legislation and standards.

Individuals who are registered and hold a current practising licence issued by the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) are authorised to carry out or supervise PEW.

PEW includes tasks such as:

installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical fittings
work on electrical installations and appliances
restoration of supply following faults.

The ability to carry out PEW depends on the registration class the person holds and whether they hold a current practising licence.
