In this edition, we provide a summary of a recent Electrical Workers Registration Board decision.
Case
The Board decided that the Respondent committed disciplinary offences under sections 143(a)(i) and 143(f) of the Electricity Act 1992.
What happened
The offences were carrying out prescribed electrical work (PEW) in a negligent or incompetent manner and providing a false or misleading return.
The Respondent was engaged to carry out PEW associated with installing 1 new downlight and 1 new single switch in the master bedroom at a property. The Respondent did not perform adequate verification and electrical testing to confirm correct polarity of the existing conductors to which newly installed wiring was connected. The Respondent also certified PEW that was not lawful by falsely stating that the required verification and polarity testing had been completed.
Outcome of the decision
A fine of $500 and costs of $250 were imposed.
