Using apprenticeship experience to apply for an endorsed registration class

Before you apply for an endorsed registration class, check that you meet the requirements and you have the appropriate evidence.

To become registered in an endorsed area, you must already hold the base registration class. You also need to meet the additional requirements for the endorsed registration class you are applying for. This includes providing evidence that you have enough practical experience in the endorsed work area you are applying for.

You can use practical experience gained during your apprenticeship as part of your supporting evidence. It is a good idea to keep clear records of endorsed area work you do as a trainee. Relevant practical experience could include three or more entries from the Energy Safety high-risk database showing prescribed electrical work you carried out in the endorsed area. The entries will need to include your name if you are using this as supporting evidence.

In some cases, the Electrical Workers Registration Board may grant an exemption from certain registration requirements if you can show you have satisfactory skills, knowledge and training for the endorsed class. For example, if you gained significant experience in an endorsed work area as a trainee, an exemption may reduce how long you must have held the associated base registration class and/or the number of practical experience hours required.
