How to determine if you need a new endorsed registration class

Before you apply

Check the registration requirements for the endorsed class or classes you wish to apply for. You need to make sure that you meet the list of registration requirements and have appropriate evidence to support your application.

How to apply

  1. Log in to the electrical workers (EW) online portal. Log in to the EW portal(external link).
  2. Select "Apply for endorsed class" from the menu.
  3. Choose the endorsed classes relevant to your current registration.
  4. Upload supporting evidence.
  5. Pay the registration fee, currently $304.35 + GST, and submit your application. Only one fee is required, even if you are applying for more than one endorsed class.
  6. The licensing team will review your application and contact you with the outcome.

Note: You must have an active approved registration class before applying.

Supporting evidence required

Provide one or more of the following:

  • A reference from an employer or licensed electrical worker who supervised you outlining the prescribed electrical work (PEW) you’ve completed in the endorsed area. The reference letter must:
    • detail the PEW experience you have completed covering any practical experience hours required
    • include the start and end dates of employment for each company
    • include the number of hours, days, weeks or months of work experience you have completed
    • be on company letterhead
    • be signed and dated by your Board-approved supervisor on your file, not required for Supervision and Mains Parallel Generation Systems endorsed class applications
    • contain email contact details for your supervisor, if applicable.
  • If you are self-employed, a statutory declaration outlining the PEW you have carried out in the endorsed area plus evidence of being self-employed from either Inland Revenue or the Companies Register. Download a Statutory Declaration form.
  • Three or more entries from the Energy Safety high-risk database showing PEW you carried out in the endorsed area.
  • Evidence you completed any Board-approved qualification or micro-credential for the endorsed class.

Note

Providing false or misleading information to the Registrar or Board is an offence under the Electricity Act 1992 that may result in a fine of up to $10,000.

If you do not meet all the registration requirements

The Electrical Workers Registration Board may consider granting an exemption to certain registration requirements if you meet some, but not all, of the requirements and are able to provide evidence that you have the satisfactory skills, knowledge and training for registration in the desired endorsed class.
