Applying for an endorsed registration class – streamlined process
You may need to hold an endorsed registration class if you carry out prescribed electrical work (PEW) in any of the following endorsed areas:
- Mining Operations
- Medical Cardiac Protected Areas
- Hazardous Areas
- Mains Parallel Generation Systems
- Supervision of more than 2 people at one time. Note: Electrical Inspectors can supervise any number of people without this endorsed registration class.
To become registered in an endorsed area, you must already hold the base registration class, Using the streamlined application process, you can apply for more than one endorsed registration class for a single registration fee.
Overseas-trained applicants should apply for registration using the overseas trained application process. Australians applying under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement (TTMRA), should apply using the TTMRA application process.
Check if you need to hold an endorsed registration class
Before you apply
Check the registration requirements for the endorsed registration class(es) you wish to apply for. You need to make sure that you meet the registration requirements and have appropriate evidence to support your application.
You do not need to hold a Limited Certificate while completing practical experience in a Mining Operation, Medical Cardiac Protected Area or Hazardous Area. You may choose to hold a Limited Certificate because, as a Trainee, you may be supervised to do a wider range of PEW.

Supporting evidence required
Provide one or more of the following:

- detail the PEW experience you have completed covering any practical experience hours required, including hours completed in prior work experience or as an apprentice
- include the start and end dates of employment for each company
- include the number of hours, days, weeks or months of work experience you have completed
- be on company letterhead

- If you are self-employed, a statutory declaration outlining the PEW you have carried out in the endorsed area plus evidence of being self-employed from either Inland Revenue or the Companies Register. Download a Statutory Declaration form.
- Three or more entries from the Energy Safety high-risk database showing PEW you carried out in the endorsed area.
- Evidence you completed any Board-approved qualification or micro-credential for the endorsed registration class.
Note: Energy Safety high risk database entries alone are not adequate evidence that you meet registration requirements.

Note
Providing false or misleading information to the Registrar or Board is an offence under the Electricity Act 1992 that may result in a fine of up to $10,000.
If you do not meet all the registration requirements
The Electrical Workers Registration Board may consider granting an exemption to certain registration requirements if you meet some, but not all, of the requirements and are able to provide evidence that you have the satisfactory skills, knowledge and training for registration in the desired endorsed registration class.
For example, if you gained significant experience in an endorsed area as a Trainee, an exemption may be granted that reduces the amount of time you must have held the associated base registration class and/or the practical experience hours you are required to complete.
