Electrical Engineer (Endorsed Hazardous Areas)
Required work experience
To become an Electrical Engineer (Endorsed Hazardous Areas) you must have:
- Held Registration as an Electrical Engineer with the EWRB in New Zealand for a period of not less than 2 years
- Completed not less than 2 years of practical experience in the prescribed electrical work of an Electrical Engineer
- Completed not less than 1 year (2000 hours) of practical experience in a hazardous area or substantially similar practical experience satisfactory to the Board
- Adequate knowledge, training, skills, and experience satisfactory to the Board of:
- The control of the types and degree of explosion hazards
- The use of explosive-protection techniques
- The performance of safety functions that are required for hazardous areas and explosion-protected electrical equipment
- Risk management including safety assessment requirements.
You can choose to complete the following qualification to gain the necessary knowledge, training, skills, and experience (point 4 above), or alternatively you can use your work experience:
- The New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Equipment in Explosive Atmospheres (Level 4).
