Consultation Outcome: EW fees review

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has run a consultation process on reviewing the fees for Electrical Workers.

Feedback was sought from over 28,000 electrical workers as well as circulated within the industry. MBIE received and reviewed 119 submissions.

Following this consultation, no substantive implementation issues were raised, and the upcoming changes to fees have been confirmed. The new fees structure will apply from January 2019, bringing fees back to comparable levels paid by electrical workers before 2013.

The fee changes will ensure the scheme is fully recovering costs and is adequately funded. They also provide for streamlining of administration, on-going support for increased professional development opportunities for electrical workers, and will make the fee structure fairer.

What do I do differently to pay my fees?

The way you pay your fees will not be changed. The new fees will apply to all applications received on or after 21 January 2019.

For renewals of licences, these changes will apply for the 2019 licensing round. Both licensing renewal and fees structures for electrical workers are changing from 2019. Currently electrical worker practising licences all expire on 30 June 2019.  The Board will send a notice to all electrical workers holding a current practising licence setting out:

  • the revised date for renewal of their practising licence; and
  • the amount of their next practising licence fee, to cover the period their practising licence has been extended; and when this will be paid

Fees changes

Changes to the electrical workers licence and registration fees will come in to affect from 21 January 2019.
