Managing safety on small construction sites

Did you know that WorkSafe (Energy Safety) has published a guide that provides information about electrical supply and safety on small construction sites? The guide is intended for a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) who manages or controls a small construction site.

The principle focus of the guide is the provision of information and material regarding the control of electrical risks and protection of workers who use electricity.

There is a checklist that assists with determining whether all reasonably practicable steps are being undertaken to ensure that electricity is supplied and used safely.

A theme throughout the guide is the principle that workers must be engaged, including workers being able to effectively participate in health and safety practices. This means:

'…giving workers a reasonable opportunity to express their views and to raise work health or safety concerns. Consider what workers have to say – for example, when identifying electrical hazards and deciding how to eliminate or minimise risks. Their views can help you to improve work health and safety.'
