Apply for a Trainee Limited Certificate

How to apply for a Trainee Limited Certificate to complete work experience for EWRB Registration New Zealand pathway.

Follow these steps to apply:

1. Download the supervision declaration form

2. Documents required

  • A signed and completed supervision declaration form from the registered and licensed electrical worker who will supervise you.
  • A photo that meets the following criteria for your ID card (if not already on file):
    • a face, head and shoulders shot, looking directly at the camera and less than 6 months old
    • plain, light coloured background
    • sunglasses, glasses with tinted lenses OR headwear that obscures your face are not permitted
    • 3:4 – width to height ratio, in full colour
    • between 50KB and 5MB in size (or printed image for paper applications).

  • Payment details: You can pay for your application by credit or debit card. All payments made outside the New Zealand banking system must be made by credit card.
  • *Certified colour copy of your proof of Identity – drivers licence or passport personal identity page

*Certified: The official confirmation that the copies of your documents are identical to the original documents. The confirmation is issued by an authorised public authority or a Notary.

4. Next steps

Once your application has been completed and approved, you will receive:

  • A Trainee Limited Certificate approval email with your requirements to complete registration.
  • Your Trainee Limited Certificate card. This will take up to 15 working days to arrive depending on your location.
  • If it has not arrived within 20 working days,
    then contact us.

If you do not receive your licence card you must contact us within 3 months of receiving the approval email. If you contact us outside of this time frame and have not received your card, you will need to apply and pay for a replacement card.

Completing safety training

You must complete Safety Training within three months of being issued your Trainee Limited Certificate, covering safe working practices, testing, CPR and basic first aid.
