Our role

The Board enhances electrical safety through improving competency of electrical workers in New Zealand by having a leading role in the sector to deliver occupational regulatory good practise.

Board functions

The Board was established under section 148 of the Electricity Act 1992 (the Act). The Board’s main functions are to register electrical workers and ensure competency of those workers in order to guarantee public safety. This is carried out through auditing of electrical workers, holding hearings into complaints and the promotion of electrical safety and competency.
